APS Yr7 Girls vs Castle View school

PlayStation Football cup round 4

Venue: New River stadium

Score: 4-0 (Alena 2; Scarlet ; Sara)

The PlayStation Schools’ Cup is an exciting grassroots football partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA).

Report by Kate and Elsie:

Round 4 of the PS Cup saw APS Year 7 Girls football team, travel to play their first home game of the season at New River Sports Centre. A win would help them to progress through to the last 16 of the National Schools Cup. Poor weather had made Durnsford Park unplayable. Typically, as soon as we arrived it started to pour with rain. After some vigorous warming up and a pep talk from Mr. Amooty and Adem, we were ready to play our opponents who had travelled two hours from Canvey Island to play the match. APS were quick to dominate with many chances on goal, but it wasn’t until the end of the first half that Scarlett’s powerful shot got past their impressive keeper. Another pep talk and even more rain brought on the second half. Alena’s curling corner was helped into the goal by the opposing keeper and we had doubled our lead. Alena completed her brace with another calm finish. Orla’s long throws gave us another attacking threat. Super sub Sara got on the end of a throw to calmly slot the ball into the net. A Castle View free kick right at the end, brought their first shot on target. Kate getting a hand to the ball and Elsie clearing off the line dealt with the threat and ensured a clean sheet. Castle View’s top scorer who netted four in the last round was completely marked out of the game by Chloe in defence. A convincing 4-0 victory for APS, put us into the last 16 against opponents from Brighton!
