Congratulations to Calum and Madi on winning our APS ‘Road to Wimbledon’ Full Court and Short Tennis Competitions.

The Under 14 Challenge is a unique competition providing an opportunity for schools to engage and inspire their young tennis players. By entering the tournament and staging an event APS have given over thirty players the chance to qualify to compete on the grass courts at Wimbledon.

Well done to our full court finalists Calum and Louie who beat the best twenty tennis players in Yr7&8. Calum finished as APS Champion, after a very closely contested final finished 4-2, following a ‘Fast 4 Tennis’ format. Our winner Calum goes on to the county final, with a chance to compete in the National Finals at Wimbledon in August.

To make the competition fully inclusive we hosted a short tennis format, which again was hotly contested. Congratulations to finalists Madi and Olivia, who played out some fantastic rallies in their final match.

Our senior players not only competed in the competition, but also assisted with umpiring and organising the fixtures and recording results. The standard of play was the best we have ever seen at APS and students demonstrated the highest levels of sporting behaviour.

Thanks must go to Robbie at the Pavilion for hosting our competition. Again his generous support is very much appreciated.

APS Tennis club is on every Wednesday after school and all are welcome. Our Aegon Team Tennis squad are still unbeaten this season, but we equally welcome beginners, who can use the short courts to help develop their game.
