Congratulations to the APS Bell Boat team who won the Phoenix Outdoor Centre Bell Boat Regatta on Friday 7th June at the Welsh Harp Reservoir. A great performance from APS students selected from Yrs 7-9. The team consisted of students with a range of experience. Some had competed at the LYG’s earlier this term representing Team Haringey in the kayak event, whilst others had never paddled a boat before.

Following a full safety briefing, the team were equipped with buoyancy aids and waterproofs and were trained to use their paddles safely before getting onto the Bell boat. They had some practice at working as a team, to paddle their boat in different directions, whilst on the way to the start line.  They then had two attempts to complete the 100m course in the fastest time possible. The team were successful in posting the best time by any secondary school in North London.  The session finished with some fun challenges on the way back to dry land testing the students sense of balance and fearlessness! APS would like to thank the fabulous staff at the Phoenix Outdoor Centre for an exciting morning on the water and Decathlon Sports store who supplied the team with their medals and goody bags!
