Congratulations to our U17 handball team that represented Haringey in the London Youth Games finals at the SCORE centre in Hackney. The boys were drawn in a very difficult group which consisted of 3 of the 4 semi-finalists. The first fixture couldn’t have been any more difficult considering Ealing were reigning champions from last year’s competition and compete in tournaments throughout the year. After a close first half of the match, Ealing ran out convincing winners. This match was followed by a draw with Bexley (7.7) and two comprehensive wins over Lambeth and Waltham Forest (9.0 and 6.3). Our final group game was against a very strong Islington side who took the points after a tough 9.3 win. After all the group matches had been played APS sat in 3rd place in group 1, which meant that we would play Redbridge (2nd place in group 2) in the quarter finals. It was a very closely contested quarter final with APS winning by a score line of 7.6. Our semi-final was another fiercely contested match against a Havering side that finished top of group 2.There was some excellent attacking skills on show from both sides and with the scores level at 7.7 and 30 seconds left on the clock Ethan drove through the Havering defence to score a last gasp winner to put APS into the London Youth Games final. Our opponents in the final were the Islington team which beat us 9.3 in the group stages. The APS boys had shown great improvement and determination throughout the competition and they further highlighted these traits in the final. APS showed some fantastic defensive and attacking skills but unfortunately fell just short on this occasion, losing by a score line of 11.6. The boys represented the school and the borough fantastically and they should be very proud of their achievements.
